Kenadi Started Walking!

So for the longest time Kendai has been taking a few steps here and there, but now she has gained enough confidence in herself to walk as far as needed. here is a video we made today:

Happy Birthday Kenadi!

Well, it has been a year (actually Tuesday was her birthday) since Kenadi's dramatic entrance into the world and Im glad to say that a year later things are less dramatic (other than her personality!) We had a fun relaxing day just hanging out. Basketball season is over so Andrew was home early. We went to McDonalds for her birthday. Jackson made that decision for her. She enjoyed it though! We kept her birthday pretty low key. She opened our presents to her and then we got on webcam with my parents so she could open their presents. We got on webcam on Wednesday with Andrews parents since they were just getting home from Idaho on Tuesday. She was pretty excited over her presents.We don't have very many pictures since we recorded most of her opening her presents.
Oh I almost forgot, we got her ears pierced Monday night. She looks adorable!!

At 1 year old she can kind of walk. She could totally do it if she wanted to. She will walk between Andrew and I quite a bit and can hold her balance without a problem but she chooses to still crawl. Thats fine. She LOVES food! Any type of food, doesn't matter. We have yet to come across anything that she doesn't like. She loves to pretend to talk on the phone to grapa (grandpa). Anytime you ask her who she is talking to she says grandpa. She LOVES to play with Jackson. The two of them are so cute together. If one of them is sleeping the other one is anxiously waiting for them to wake up. The other day both kids were downstairs taking a nap. I hear Kenadi talking in her bed so I go down to get her. I find Jackson in the room with her with a couple of toys and the two of them are "talking" to eachother. So funny. Yesterday, Jackson was still sleeping so I was making Kenadi some eggs. All of a sudden I hear her yell, "JAAAAA!!! JAAAAA!!" in her high pitch squeal, sure enough Jackson was coming upstairs. Needless to say she LOVES her brother. She tries really hard to talk to us and jabbers away quite a bit. She is also quite the drama queen. If things don't go her way she throws herself on the floor and cries the most pitiful cry you have ever heard. Seriously you would think that she was dying by the way she cries, I find it quite humorous now. She also folds her arms consistantly for prayer. I was so proud one day at lunch time when I told her and Jack that lunch was ready (both kids were already in their chairs) she immediately folded her little arms ready for prayer. We LOVE having her in our family! She is so much fun and has such an infectious laugh you can't help but love her! Happy 1st Birthday Kenadi! We LOVE YOU!
She goes for her 1 year checkup next month so Ill give details of that after that happens.

This week

Not much has been going on around here this week. On Valentines day, I had some beautiful roses delivered from Andrew Jackson and Kenadi. They are so sweet. Andrew had a game on Monday and didn't get home until about 9 that night. Well, I had planned to make dinner for us later to have together but after some miscommunication the kids ended up with chicken alfredo, me a bowl of cereal and Andrew nothing. Oh well, life goes on.

 

 Tuesday was Ben's birthday and I was making him dinner and cake. Well, we all know Jackson loves cake batter but Kenadi had yet to try it yet. I figured since she is almost a year it was high time she got her own spoon. Needless to say, she LOVED it!

Jackson is pretty good at sharing with Kenadi. They are sharing oatmeal in this picture.

He was SO excited to find  a hat AND the boppy. He played with both things pretty much all day.

I was doing a deep clean one day and ran downstairs to switch the laundry to come back up and find Jackson in my hat and slippers.

He always looks out for his little sister, wants to make sure shes okay. I think its adorable.

A couple weeks ago we bit the bullet and cut Jacksons hair. He still screamed and what not but it was not as bad as usual. And he looks so cute with his new hairdo.

Lesson learned: Dont leave the wipes by Kenadi. When you run the diaper outside you will come back to find half of the package of wipes out.

Another lesson learned: Dont eat licorice in front of Kenadi if you dont plan on sharing. Andrew was eating licorice and was going to give her a little piece. Well, while he was tearing off a piece she was sneaky and grabbed the whole stick and proceeded to eat the whole thing and want more.

Really? You are too lazy to pick your drink up? And this wasn't just a one time thing, she does it quite frequently and if it isnt a straw cup and you are close by she will probably be expecting you to hold it for her. Oh the little "princess"

This picture hangs above our dining table. Each day during lunch Jackson points to it and says, "Mom, mom, Adi, Jesus, ME!!" So next time you see this picture evidently its my kids in it.

Oh and a funny story. You know your child has been in the hospital or had to take medicine quite a bit when you go to give them their medicine and they hold the syringe for you while you push the medicine in their mouth. Yeah, Kenadi is AWESOME at taking medicine which is good because she has to have her antiviral medicine 5 times a day! Her spots are starting to go away and she is looking much better!

Chicken Pox, REALLY?

So, Sunday I noticed this little spot on Kenadis head, but it seriously looked like a mole. I thought nothing of it and told Andrew we would just have the doctor look at it at her one year appointment (on the 22nd). Well, Monday there are a couple of red dots where her diaper hits on her belly. I didnt think anything of these because she has such sensitive skin that she has rashes appear like that often. Tuesday more spots. I call the doctors office and the nurse asks me if it looks like chicken pox. I told her that Ive never had chicken pox before so I dont really know what they look like but from pictures online I dont really think so. She asks me to bring her in so we can make sure. We see a different doctor then our usual one since our doctor was out of the office. He looks her over and says he thinks its just a viral rash and since she has such sensitive skin it is worse then it would be in another child. He says, if it were chicken pox she would have a fever and be more sick. Wednesday rolls around and all the spots look pretty much the same. Then Wednesday night we get a phone call from the Primary Presidency. Two kids in nursery (Andrews and my calling) have chicken pox. Well, Kenadi doesnt sleep at all that night. We just figure shes uncomfortable from these spots. Come Thursday morning she has TONS more. Poor girl they are all on her belly and back and nether regions (if you catch my drift). Im starting to worry that something more is going on. I call the doctors office again and talk to the nurse. She says I should probably bring her in and make sure there isnt something more going on. As soon as the nurse looks at her she says, "Im pretty sure those are chicken pox!!" She said I dont know why they didn't catch it on Tuesday. Another nurse looks at her and agrees. The doctor takes a look at her, "yep thats chicken pox!" He was extremely apologetic for not catching it the first time and me having to come all the way back down (we still go to Provo for our pediatrician, I like him a lot! Plus the nursing staff doesn't make me feel dumb for calling every other day about spots!) Anyways, he prescribed her an antiviral medication to help prevent more crops of spots from coming and also a cream in case any of the spots get infected. Thankfully Kenadi has been really good. For the most part you wouldn't know she was sick other than the spots. She has had a light fever off and on but other than that thats it. She also hasn't really been scratching at them. She started picking at some in the crease of her arm but that was fixed by covering it with a bandaid. Hopefully she wont have any scars on her pretty little face. Thankfully Andrews already had them and Jackson and I have both been vaccinated. Oh and by the way, my doctor was surprised at there being a chicken pox outbreak since now the chicken pox vaccine is part of the schedule at 1 years old (1 month later and Kenadi would have been vaccinated). He said that most likely a child came into contact with someone who had shingles, got chicken pox and passed it onto Kenadi and the 2 other kids in nursery. It sucks, especially since Ive never dealt with it before (none of my siblings ever had it, the doctor thinks we were naturally immune to it but we have all had the vaccine to make sure) I don't know whats most comforting. Thankfully we are on day 5 and most places say this should be the last day of new spots appearing- I hope that holds true.

Great Great Grandpa Olson

As Jackson has gotten older he has really enjoyed our Saturday visits to grandpa. I know grandpa enjoys them too. Its been interesting to see the change in my grandpa. When we were first married (almost 5 years ago) we started going weekly to see him and my grandpa was pretty particular in how things should be done, where they should go etc. But ever since Jackson was born I have seen him "loosen" up a bit. Honestly, my kids can do no wrong to him. He just says, "Let them be! They need to explore!" Anyways, Jackson loves playing with grandpa and grandpa plays right back. He lets Jackson stack toys up on him and will sit there holding them for him and until he comes back. Its rather quite amusing. A couple of weeks ago, Jackson even had grandpa coloring with him. Then Kenadi decided to color with them too. It was so cute to see the three of them coloring together.

Mom, Mom, Mom!!!

Some days, I hear Mom way to much and by the end of the day I am tired of having my attention called to minute things that don't really matter. For instance, getting my attention to look at Jacksons foot. Anyways, Monday I had cleaned ALL day! Like deep cleaned every last corner in my house. I was exhausted by the end of the day so we went out to dinner. On the drive over (its like 5 minutes) Jackson would say, Mom, Mom! So Id turn around and ask him what and he would just look at me or make a noise, this happened probably 30 times. Andrew was laughing pretty hard by the time we got to the restaurant because Jackson just wanted to make sure he had my attention. So we get to the restaurant and are sitting down and again, seriously every 10 seconds Jackson would get my attention for no reason! I was going crazy! Then we finally get our food and Jackson decided that he would show me every bite of food he took before he took it. Andrew and I were laughing so hard by the end of dinner because it was a little ridiculous. If I didn't look when Jackson said my name, he would just keep saying it until I looked. At one point, we told him to say dad instead. Yeah, that worked about 1 time and then it was back to mom. Oh the life of a mom. I'm glad he loves me and wants my attention but it would be nice to just have some quiet for a minute. Thankfully, he is not in a "mom" mood today and is happily playing in the couch pillows (I hate when he does it, it makes the room feel so messy, so I turned my back so I cant see it).

Not much has been going on around here. It has been pretty cold so we have been hanging out inside playing and cleaning and taking pictures. Jackson LOVES to take pictures! Andrew thinks I should start a blog of all the pictures Jack takes. Seriously, the kid will get ahold of either the camera or my phone and go around taking pictures of different things. Then he'll say, Mom, mom!! CHEEEEEESE! and takes a picture of me. Of course he does that to Adi (Kenadi) too and she is more than happy to oblige! She is such a ham and loves her picture taken.
